Government’s forest fight threatens showcase event
- Mountain bike event caught up in Liberals’ unpopular forest plan
- Minister must ensure protests don’t detract from World Series event
The Minister for Forests should not be allowed to tarnish the Derby Enduro World Series with his reckless, friendless and unnecessary forestry legislation.
“All eyes will be on Derby early next month with the arrival of the biggest mountain biking event in the world,” Shadow Tourism Minister Scott Bacon said.
“Guy Barnett’s ideological bid to unlock timber that nobody wants from contentious areas including the Derby mountain bike trails threatens to draw unwanted negative attention to the event.
“Will Hodgman must intervene to ensure the Enduro World Series cannot be hijacked by anti-forestry protesters.
“We cannot afford to have this historic event overshadowed by a conflict that no one but Guy Barnett wants to have.
“Will Hodgman must pull his Minister into line.”
