Hidden waiting list shock makes release of secret health reports vital
- Details of secret health reports must be revealed
- Patients on hidden lists waiting up to five years
- Ferguson must stop the denial and secrecy
Shocking data showing patients on hidden waiting lists are waiting up to five years for specialist appointments places further pressure on Health Minister Michael Ferguson to release the KPMG report and the leaked RDME report commissioned by his Government.
Shadow Health Minister Sarah Lovell said Michael Ferguson must come clean on the state of health funding so that patients know exactly why they are waiting so long.
“I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for people suffering from chronic pain to have to wait unacceptable times to get in to see a doctor, even before being placed on the waiting list for surgery,” Ms Lovell said.
“There’s a very real possibility that the condition of some of these patients will deteriorate rapidly before they even have a chance to speak to a doctor.
“This is symptomatic of the absolute failure of this Liberal Government to adequately fund Tasmania’s health system, with an annual $100 million black hole in health spending. If the Government fail to act now the problem is only going to get worse.
“After five years of lies by the Health Minister, we now know what Labor, clinicians, nurses and health professionals have been saying is true – this Government has systematically underfunded our health system and the problem’s only getting worse.
“Michael Ferguson must now release both reports in full so that the underlying issue with our health system – a $100 million funding black hole – can be laid bare for all to see.”
