Liberals to slash $34 million from Department of Communities
- Department of Communities told to brace for $34 million cut
- Housing, child protection and family violence services not safe
Today in Parliament the Government refused to deny its plans to cut $34 million from the Department of Communities.
Shadow Minister for Housing, Alison Standen, said departments are scrambling to deal with the fall out of the Government’s $450 million in cuts.
“Housing, child protection and family violence services are all under threat from the Government’s cruel slash and burn agenda.
“These critical services are already at breaking point and yet the Department of Communities has been told to cut $4 million this financial year and $34 million over the forward estimates.
“Every day the full impact of the Hodgman Razor Gang becomes clearer, despite disgraceful attempts to keep it secret.
“How Will Hodgman can possibly justify cuts to services that are already under extreme pressure is outrageous.
“Tasmanian’s deserve better. The Government must come clean on the extent of its savage cuts.”
