Michael Ferguson agrees parents don’t want to take their children to the RHH

·         Michael Ferguson agrees with Liberal Candidate’s damning comments on RHH

·         Action needed now to address health and hospital crisis

Health Minister Michael Ferguson today confirmed he agrees with damning comments on the state of the Royal Hobart Hospital made by endorsed Liberal Candidate for Lyons Jessica Whelan.

Last June, Ms Whelan posted on Facebook:

“I don’t want to be stuck going to the RHH even though I pay for that too. Having to take my children there is bad enough … why do I have to take my children to the public hospitals when I pay a bomb for private health?”

In Parliament today, Michael Ferguson responded to Ms Whelan’s comments by stating:

“I’m not sure if Ms Whelan made those comments, but if she did, I agree with them.”

Labor Leader, Rebecca White, said it was extraordinary that Michael Ferguson had agreed with Ms Whelan’s comments attacking public hospitals.

“Michael Ferguson has continually denied the health crisis and yet he agrees with Ms Whelan, who doesn’t want to take her children to the Royal Hobart Hospital,” Ms White said.

“It explains a lot that the man responsible for our health system can’t even defend public hospitals from attacks from his own side. In fact he agrees with them.

“If only Michael Ferguson would agree with the experts on the front line who have been calling for action to prevent more patients dying unnecessary deaths.”
