Morrison must back Labor’s school funding
- Federal Labor commitment would be enough for 131 additional teachers
- Labor recognises the value of public education
- Liberal Senators and the Premier must lobby for PM to match funding
Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne has called on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to match Federal Labor’s bold commitment of $52 million for Tasmanian public schools.
“This money would be enough for 131 additional teachers at a time when our schools are crying out for extra resourcing and extra teachers,” Ms O’Byrne said.
“Liberal Governments in Tasmania and Canberra have slashed funding to our public schools and we wonder why retention rates and outcomes are not improving.
“Labor recognises the value of public education.
“If Scott Morrison is not prepared to back Tasmanian public education, it sends a clear message that only Labor will invest in the education of all Tasmanians.
“Liberal Senators and the Premier must lobby Scott Morrison to adopt Labor’s commitments to Tasmanian public schools.”
