Stumped! Hodgman fails to put in hard yards as Tassie cricket fans dudded

Tasmania has been outworked by other states and the ACT and now finds itself with a pathetic cricketing schedule for the coming years.

“Premier Will Hodgman and Sports Minister Jacquie Petrusma have been made to look like No 11’s against the new ball, completely clueless,” Shadow Minister for Sport David O’Byrne said.

“When disappointed Tasmanians look at the cricket schedule they can lay the blame squarely with the Liberal Government.

“Under Will Hodgman Tasmanian cricket fans and the world-class Blundstone Arena have slipped behind even Canberra’s Manuka Oval.

“The ACT’s international fixtures outnumber Tasmania’s 4:1 this summer.

“State and Federal Labor governments have invested significantly in sporting infrastructure over the past decade on the basis that big games featuring the Australian men’s and women’s cricket teams will be scheduled at Bellerive Oval.

“Despite this investment from Labor, the Liberals have again failed to go into bat for cricket loving Tasmanians by not demanding regular, high-stakes games at Bellerive Oval.

“Labor has written to Cricket Australia to lobby for a program agreement with Tasmania that guarantees international fixtures in future years.”
