Teachers deserve respect, not a real wage cut

  • Treasurer arrogantly demands workers take unfair pay offer
  • Teachers deserve to be valued and respected by the Government

Tasmanian Labor Leader Rebecca White has called on the Treasurer to reconsider his unfair pay offer to Tasmanian public sector workers.

“Recent Australian Bureau of Statistics analysis shows the inflation rate in Hobart is 3 per cent, a full 1 per cent above the Treasurer’s cold-hearted pay offer to Tasmanian teachers, firefighters, nurses, paramedics, park rangers and child safety officers,” Ms White said.

“That’s a full per cent real wage cut, making life even harder for these hard working Tasmanians.

“On the first day of school of the year for many, the Treasurer has an opportunity to tell teachers, teachers assistants and school facility attendants that the Government respects and values the work they do.

“If he won’t do that, the Premier has to pull his Treasurer into line.

“Labor stands with people working in our schools, who regularly go above and beyond to ensure kids get the best start in life.”
