The Liberal Government has missed a second opportunity to bring cost of living relief to Tasmanian households and back Labor’s plan to cap power prices today.

Guy Barnett and Jeremy Rockliff’s abandonment of their “Tasmania First” energy policy has exposed the state to chaos in the national market.

Power prices have gone up by 12 per cent already this year, with power prices expected to rise by 20-25 per cent next year.

Mr. Rockliff and his Energy Minister Guy Barnett are passionately opposed to sparing Tasmanian families from unacceptable bill shock.

It is clear the Premier does not care about Tasmanians doing it tough amidst the cost-of-living crisis, as he and his government did not support this legislation to give Tasmanians the relief they so desperately need.

This was the Liberal Government’s own policy at the election in 2018 to achieve the ‘Lowest Regulated Energy Prices in the Nation’.

They backflipped on that promise and today planted a second stamp of approval on unparalleled bill shock.

This embattled Premier has had a shocking last week of Parliament for 2022, and has signed off this terrible year for the Liberal Government with a clear position that they are happy to let Tasmanian families suffer.
