Arrogant Liberals appalling track record not fooling Tasmanians
- Guy Barnett characterises arrogant Liberal attitude with comments on state election
- Worst elective surgery waiting lists and housing wait lists in a generation, infrastructure not delivered
- Voters will judge government on its last seven years, not past seven days
Senior Gutwein Government Minister Guy Barnett’s arrogant views on the election campaign characterise an out-of-touch government which is hoping Tasmanians have forgotten its appalling record over the past seven years.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said it was typical of the Liberals to take Tasmanians for granted.
“Tasmanians have come to understand that this is a government which is expert at making announcements and staging photo opportunities but a failure at actually delivering on its promises,” Ms White said.
“The government and its members like Mr Barnett are treating Tasmanians like fools if they believe they will only be judged on the first seven days of the election campaign and not the past seven years.
“The election has only just begun and once again the Gutwein Government is treating Tasmanians with contempt. They have absolutely nothing to be proud of.
“Ten per cent of Tasmanians are waiting to see a doctor. Elective surgery waiting lists are the worst in recent history. Major, important infrastructure promised by the Liberals has simply not been delivered. More than 3,800 families are languishing on housing waiting lists and will remain there for on average more than a year. Regional unemployment is beyond seven per cent.
“This is a government that failed Tasmanians and is now making childish remarks just days into an election campaign.
“The Liberals have taken Tasmanians for granted and they do not deserve to be in office for 11 years.”
