Toby Thorpe
Labor Candidate for Franklin
Toby Thorpe is a passionate advocate for youth empowerment and climate action and Tasmania’s youngest Deputy Mayor.
For someone still in his early 20s, Toby has an impressive background and is committed to building a sustainable and productive future for all Tasmanians.
Through Toby’s initiatives, Huonville High School became only the second Australian winner of the international Zayed Sustainability Prize in 2017, which launched Tasmania as a global leader in renewable energy innovation.
Toby organised the first state-wide climate leaders’ conference in three Tasmanian cities, and has twice led the Tasmanian Youth Delegation as part of the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
As the 2021 Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year, Toby was recognised for his extraordinary commitment to climate action, renewable energy and building a better future for young Tasmanians in the Huon region, around Tasmania, Australia and the world.
Toby is determined to use the expertise he has already built up in his nascent career to fight for an even playing field, opportunities for everyone and a better life for all Tasmanians.
