Josh Willie is the Labor Member for the Elwick in Tasmania Legislative Council. Josh lives in the northern suburbs of Hobart with his family and is a strong voice for the people in the northern suburbs.
Josh is a proud University of Tasmania alumnus. He has a Batchelor of Arts, majoring in Political Science and Journalism and a Bachelor of Teaching.
Prior to entering Parliament, Josh was a dedicated and hardworking primary school teacher. During his time in public education, Josh held several leadership positions including Acting Advance Skills Teacher and at the time of his election, Josh was an upper primary school teacher in the northern suburbs of Hobart.
Josh is a passionate public education advocate, AEU member and former workplace representative. Josh is a proud HASCU member with a genuine interest in the community sector.
Josh is a Donate Life donor family member and has previously held the roles of Tasmanian ALP Education Platform Chair and a former Glenorchy Branch ALP Treasurer. Until recently, Josh was also President of the Old Scholars Football Association.
Josh has a history of community involvement including mentoring young people at risk with Whitelion, fundraising for legacy scholarships with The Smith Family and mentoring with the UTAS YoungMILE Young Migrant Leadership Program.
Josh has an unwavering commitment to fairness, decency and compassion and a proven track record improving the lives of young people.
Josh’s passion and commitment to the community sector continues in his roles as Shadow Minister for Housing, Disability and Child Safety and Shadow Minister for Youth, Skills and Training.
Josh is dedicated to working alongside key stakeholders and community organisations to better the lives of all Tasmanians.
